About Us

Mission:

The Center for Neuropolitics contributes to the ongoing political dialogues by engaging the multi-disciplinary expertise of neuroscience, political science, neurology, psychiatry, psychology, and philosophy.

Origin:

The Center for Neuropolitics was established by the UCI School of Medicine in 2021. The Center is designed to fill an important niche at the intersection of biological sciences, social sciences, and the humanities. The Center combines the well-known talents of UCI in neuroscience and political science into a unique multi-disciplinary program designed to engage, inform, and educate the populace.

Goals:

The Center for Neuropolitics presents innovative material in an exciting and engaging manner. Seminars in Neuropolitics are presented via Zoom, free to the campus and the public. The tremendous interest in the field emphasizes that our events are important for the surrounding community as well as the campus. Annual Symposia will address the most compelling issues of the day, and incorporate the views of national and international leaders on the topics.

Jerrold Post Lecture on Neuropolitics:

Our annual Symposia include the Jerrold Post Lecture on Neuropolitics.  Psychiatrist Jerrold M. Post, MD (1934-2020) was a founding father of the field of political psychology and author of many influential books on political leadership.  The Post Lecture has been given in 2022 by Nassir Ghaemi, MD (Tufts University), in 2023 by George E. Marcus, PhD (Williams College), and in 2024 by Ruth Ben-Ghiat, PhD (NYU).
