ACS Graduate Student Travel and Symposium Opportunities

We are still searching for the next group of graduate students to organize a symposium at the Spring 2022 ACS National Meeting! Our team has extended the application deadline to October 12, 2020 and shortened the application requirements for the next Graduate Student Symposium Planning Committee for the Spring 2022 ACS National Meeting that will be held in San Diego, CA.

This is an excellent and unique opportunity for graduate students to learn how to organize and execute a symposium and make invaluable connections within and outside of academia. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions (pitt-cmugsspc@pitt.edu).

Career Resources for Grad Students – Fall 2020

All of our fall programming will continue to be in virtual formats, including our fall career fairs.  One exciting new feature for fall (and hopefully continuing forward), is a graduate-specific biweekly newsletter that my office will draft and send to all graduate students directly.

Overview of major programs and events:

  • Fall Career Development Webinar Series – See attached flyer for fall’s graduate specific webinars. A full list of programs (offered for both undergrad and graduate students) can be found here, as well as attached.
  • Fall Career Fair – Wednesday, September 30th (Handshake) – This virtual fair will be held in Handshake and students are welcome to register to attend.
  • STEM Career Fair – Thursday, October 15th (Handshake) – Our largest career fair of the year including employers recruiting for both technical and non-technical roles.  Registration coming soon on Handshake.

1:1 Services for fall:

I will continue to offer one-on-one career counseling appointments through both Zoom and phone.  Students are able to find and sign up for appointments directly on Handshake.  I will also be hosting “office hours” through the GPSRC on Wednesdays from 1-3 and students can register here through the “Book Now”.

NSF I-Corps is the perfect opportunity to focus on market research and quickly validate your idea. NSF I-Corps is a four week, immersive boot camp that guides researchers through the market research process to help them product-market fit. This program meets once a week (virtually unless circumstances change) and is designed for researchers doing work in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.
