The UC Office of the President has announced the Fletcher Jones Fellowship Program for 2021-2022 academic year. This highly prestigious award provides a doctoral student with a dissertation completion fellowship in the amount of approximately $23,598 to be used as a stipend.
As this fellowship is intended to support doctoral degree completion, students demonstrating a clear plan and a strong likelihood of filing their dissertation by the summer dissertation filing deadline at the end of the award year will be given the strongest consideration. Since this award will be disbursed monthly throughout the 2021-2022 academic year, nominated students must not plan to graduate before the conclusion of Spring Quarter 2022.
Please note that the awardee will not be permitted to serve as a Teaching Assistant during the 2021-2022 academic year.
Information on the Fletcher Jones Foundation can be found at http://www.fletcherjonesfdn.org/.

To apply, please submit the following materials to Garrett Yoshitomi (gyoshito@uci.edu) by 8am on Wednesday, August 11, 2021. Note that this deadline is earlier than the Graduate Division deadline.
Chemistry will be selecting one nominee to forward to the School of Physical Sciences, who will then select one nominee from the School to send to Graduate Division. Because of this, you do not need to obtain or submit the Fletcher Jones Nomination Form and the letter of recommendation from the department chair/graduate program advisor. This will be done for you, if you are selected as Chemistry’s nominee.
Application Materials:
- A completed, signed UCI Fletcher Jones Student Information Form with the following items:
- 100-word statement of financial need (note any gaps in support, dependents, etc.)
- 100-word student profile
- 500-word statement by the nominee describing their research project, progress to date, and plan for completion. Nominees should describe their research in terms that are accessible to a general audience since the reviewers may not be in their field.

- Letter of recommendation from the student’s faculty advisor/mentor addressing the following:
