WHEN. The conference will be held on February 25-28, 2011. The provided transportation will be leaving UCI on Friday the 25th in the late afternoon and we will be coming back late Monday afternoon (unfortunately delegates will have to miss Monday class).
WHERE. Sacramento, CA.
WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT. For 2011, we face an additional 8% increase in UC fees, on top of the 32% increase that was passed for 2010 (we now pay around $4000/quarter). The proposed California budget reduces funding for the UC system by $500 million. For the first time in UC history, more money from student fees is being paid into the UC system than state funding. These issues are more important now than ever – we cannot continue to pay more and more for what was supposed to be accessible and affordable public higher education.
WHAT. The Student Lobby Conference (SLC) will provide you with the opportunity to participate in lobbying and organizing through several workshops and strategy sessions designed to empower and effectively lobby our state representatives.
WHO. Undergraduates enrolled at UC Irvine.
COST. This conference is FREE.
DEADLINE. The application is due February 7, 2011 at 5 PM.
