Scholarship Opportunities Program – Scholarships and Events
Known as the SOP, our office advises competitive undergraduate UC Irvine candidates in applying for 17 prestigious, nationally or internationally-competitive merit scholarships, all funded by outside agencies. Our staff perform outreach to students; assist students in matching their interests with available scholarships; advise students on application processes; provide content advice and editorial suggestions on their statements of purpose, proposals for research or creative projects, personal statements and CVs; and prepare students for campus-level and national interviews
Apply for the Big 7 Scholarship Cycle!
Sophomores and Juniors:
Goldwater: $7,500 per year for undergraduate study toward a research career in math, science, or engineering (not clinical medicine).
Killam: Up to $10,000 for undergraduate study abroad at McGill University in Canada.
Strauss: $15,000 for original, year-long community service projects and undergraduate educational expenses.
Udall: $7,000 for undergraduate Native American tribe members pursuing tribal policy or healthcare, or aspiring citizen-scholars with interest in environmental issues.
Juniors:
Truman: $30,000 for senior year and graduate study at any U.S. institution. Must have exceptional service or leadership experience & intend a career in public service.
Beinecke: $34,000 for graduate study in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Must demonstrate financial need.
Seniors and Alumni:
Carnegie Junior Fellows: Year-long prestigious research internship (approx. $39,500) at the Carnegie Endowment global think tank in Washington, D.C.
Advising Appointments:
If you are interested in one‐on‐one advising for our 17 scholarships, you can book an appointment online. Our office is open Monday – Friday from 9:00 AM – 4:00 pm at the Center for Excellent in Writing & Communication, 193 Science Library.
Drop In Hours: Tuesdays 12:30-1:30pm, Wednesday 4-5pm, Thursdays 3-4pm, and Fridays 10-11am
