NDSEG: (Seniors, alumni) National Defense Science & Engineering Graduate scholarship. The Department of Defense awards at least $30,500 to students at or near the beginning of their graduate studies in science or engineering. Send finalized applications directly to the Department of Defense by December 17, as instructed on their website, and please notify the SOP office if you decide to apply. Truman: (Seniors) Truman funds up to 4 years of graduate study in public services fields. The Truman Foundation also supports its scholars with career counseling, internship placement, graduate school admissions, and professional development. Due to the SOP office by January 3. Applications may be submitted for proofreading by December 1. Applications are available online.

Boren: (All years) Funds up to a year of language and political/cultural studies in areas deemed critical to U.S. national security. Funds tuition, fees, housing, airfare, books, transportation, and health insurance. Seniors may apply if they will not graduate during/before their time abroad. Due to the SOP office by December 3. Goldwater: (Sophomores/Juniors) Funds 1-2 years of undergraduate study for students pursuing careers in mathematics, natural science, computer science, or engineering. NOTE: Goldwater funds students studying medicine ONLY if they intend on a career in research rather than private practice. Due to the SOP office by January 3.
