The CHP is pleased to introduce a new course option to the honors curriculum for sophomores and juniors – Honors Quantum Mechanics (LPS H141). This four-unit class will be taught by Professor Jeff Barrett, and may be used to meet one quarter of EITHER the CHP Social Science Core OR Science Core requirement (at this time it is not being offered for GE credit, however).

This seminar will examine the standard formulation of quantum mechanics (which is used regularly to make accurate predictions based on few assumptions), the quantum measurement problem (what is wrong with quantum mechanics) and its implications, and several proposed solutions to this paradox.  The only prerequisite for this course is completion of high school algebra.

Dr. Brian Wong is an otolaryngologist and facial plastic surgeon in the biomedical engineering department and the School of Medicine at UC Irvine. Our lab, at Beckman Laser Institute, works with innovative cartilage reshaping techniques, live animal studies, and 3D airway imaging and modeling. We are looking for highly dedicated and self-motivated undergraduates who can work in a large group setting. We have three research positions available for 199 credit. This is a great opportunity for those who are interested in a career in the health professions. We are looking for students in (but not limited to) biomedical engineering, biological sciences, or people with technical computer programming skills.
