Fall 2017 Greek and Latin classes
Dear Campuswide Honors Program Students,
Do you like the satisfaction you get from accomplishing a challenging but doable goal? Do you need to satisfy a language requirement and want to study something different? Are you planning to apply to graduate school or a professional school and want to find an unusual way to make your application stand out from the rest? If so, think about taking ancient Greek or Latin this fall! Studying Greek and Latin is an excellent way to boost your analytical skills, improve your writing and mastery of grammar, increase your vocabulary, and augment your understanding of the way many languages work . All of these skills will benefit your study of other disciplines and you will find yourself becoming more cognizant of the way you use language. You will also gain the skills to read some of the most enduring works of literature in their original language, works such as Homer’s Iliad and the Aeneid of Vergil – an incredibly satisfying undertaking! This fall, both beginning Greek and Latin will be offered. I’ve attached fliers with course details. You can also hear what some of our students have to say about their study of Greek and Latin by watching our undergraduate video. It is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjRnPPdd_jI&feature=youtu.be .
Please let me know if you have any questions about these courses by emailing me at cynthia.claxton@uci.edu.
Sincerely,
Cynthia Claxton
