About Me

Hello! My name is Christopher Chalmers and I am an incoming Ph.D. student at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), studying Earth System Science (ESS).

I recently graduated from UCI’s ESS BS.c. program. During my undergraduate studies, I researched and wrote a thesis on using satellite remote sensing methods to detect oil palm trees in Cameroon. Oil palm tree detection is common in Southeast Asia, but few studies have been conducted in African countries where oil palm cultivation is increasing year after year. I am currently working on publishing this thesis, which will be available in the publications section of this website once completed. As a Ph.D. student, I plan to apply my remote sensing knowledge to newer hydrology questions.
