-Emily

Greetings, my name is Emily and I am a first year here at UCI.

I am majoring in Chemical Engineering and involved with Society of Women Engineers, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Engineers For A More Sustainable World, and Earth Reps. The place I call home is anywhere my mom is, so that’s currently Chino Hills, but I was pretty much born and raised in Ontario, CA. Ontario is pretty well known for its farms and large open spaces right next to our neighborhoods. So when I was young, many times I found myself admiring the landscape and the smell of the crisp, fresh, field air. One could say growing up in such an environment is what helped tailor my appreciation for our natural world.

While pursuing a degree in chemical engineering, I collaborate with others in the effort to protect our planet and its diverse societies through sustainable processes/materials by participating in sustainable clubs/organizations such as ESW and Earth Reps. I feel honored to be a participant in the CRP because it is the perfect opportunity to work with those from unique backgrounds towards this central goal. I look forward to experiencing the beautiful country of Costa Rica and testing my limits in this foreign land. Visiting Costa Rica will give me a deeper understanding of how different communities deal with the topic of sustainability. Not only will this program strengthen my knowledge of sustainable processes, but it will also help guide how I lead my own life. Upon coming back from the trip, I hope to effectively share the knowledge I’ve gained in order to incite an increased level of passion with those around me.
