Lindsey

Hello All! My name is Lindsey and I am fourth year working towards my major in International Studies and a minor in Global Sustainability. I was born and raised in beautiful Southern California, about 15 minutes from Downtown Los Angeles and now I live in Irvine where I am just a short drive away from the beach.

I was exposed to sustainable practices at a young age thanks to my parents who implemented recycling and composting bins in the house, however, my sustainability interests grew the most out of high school after taking an AP Environmental Science course with one of my favorite teachers. I am part Balinese and I pride myself in my father’s culture and I have embraced every chance I’ve had to travel to the island. In Bali, not only have I been fortunate enough to visit with family, but I also have been able to expand my interests in sustainability because like Costa Rica, Bali is a haven for green ethics. It was in Bali that I first used a compostable toilet! I have wanted to visit a new destination since that offers alternative perspectives to live on this ever-changing planet. That is one huge reason why I am so excited to be a part of the Costa Rica team this year. I have never had the chance to immerse myself in a Central American culture and I extremely excited to visit and take part in everything that Costa Rica has to offer.

On the UCI campus, I have had the privilege to serve on the executive board for Pi Beta Phi, Fraternity for Women this past year and last spring quarter I was a participant in the UCEAP European Transformations Program in Madrid and Rome. Studying abroad definitely gave me the travel bug and I can’t get enough!

Aside from school, I am an avid thrift store shopper and a swap meet enthusiast (I love a good deal), I love hiking, cultural festivals, Asian cuisine, concerts and spending time with my family. Overall, I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica and I am looking forward to making new friends and being part of a team that shares the same passions for sustainability as me.
