Hi! My name is Shine Kim and I’m the Academic Coordinator for the Costa Rica Program. I am a fourth year International Studies major with a minor in History. While studying full time, I have also been working as a Generation Study Abroad Ambassador, Editor-in-Chief of the UCI Anthology Yearbook, and volunteer at CrossLife Bible Church.

As an International Studies major, I am required to study abroad and have had the privilege of studying abroad twice. I was able to study in London, Paris, and Seoul. My classes in Paris, France have put me on the path of graduate school in hopes of either working with the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs or becoming a professor. Classes in Seoul, South Korea gave snippets of sustainability methods. Little did I know, I would be able to incorporate both lessons from Paris and Seoul to UCI.  Right now my work as a Study Abroad Ambassador allows me to work with the UCI Study Abroad office to promote learning outside UCI. As Editor-in-Chief of the UCI Anthology, I work with a team of twenty students who work to display all of UCI’s greatest aspects. As a volunteer at CrossLife Bible Church, I work on the college ministry’s sound team and help integrate newcomers so that they feel welcome in our community.

However, my greatest passion at UCI is research and academia.
I applied to this position in hopes of expanding my knowledge in sustainability and encouraging to UCI peers that sustainability goes beyond environmental but also political and social. Not only that, but I can also assist others in how to research thoroughly and quickly. Many of my professors have inspired me to be where I am today and I am excited to pay it forward by instilling knowledge, empathy, and passion for other students.
