Earth System Science Major

I chose to participate in the Costa Rica Program because I’ve always been interested in sustainability and learning about how to conserve our Earth’s resources. I am really passionate about learning about the problems our planet faces and how we can fix these problems. Also, I’ve always been very interested in traveling, and going to Costa Rica will my first time outside of the United States.

For almost two years, I have been involved in a community service Fraternity on campus, Alpha Phi Omega, for which I’ve held three leadership positions. I am currently the Family Head and Service Project Chair. From planning fellowships for the brothers of my fraternity to planning service projects, community service has always been a huge part of my life, and I am very interested in helping people and the planet. I am also involved in a basketball club on campus.

I am looking forward to traveling somewhere completely different and observing the unique ways of living in Costa Rica and the culture. I am also looking forward to being immersed in the outdoors and hiking. Most of all, I am looking forward to all of the things I am going to learn from this experience and being able to bring them back to the United States to share with my family, friends, and peers.
