My name is Antonia—mostly people call me Toni for ease of pronunciation. On campus I am involved in the Middle Earth Community Council, where I work to create and hold events for the residents. I also intern as a Legislative Aide for the Executive Vice President’s Office in ASUCI, where I lobby state legislators and further students’ interests on and off campus.
Last summer I was able to take a trip to Israel, Jordan, and the West Bank in order to study the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. This was my first cultural immersion trip, and I was amazed at how much I learned before we had met with our first speaker. I heard about the Costa Rica trip from a past participant and was intrigued by the experiential learning base of the program and the focus on sustainability. I was eager to apply for the program to have a chance to study sustainability in a country where the government has given saving the environment a high priority.
