I was lucky to have a high school chemistry teacher who was so passionate about global sustainability that he had us do individual projects on various environmental issues. After learning about many of the harmful effects pollution has on nature, I became more conscious of my own carbon footprint and have integrated sustainable practices into my everyday life.
I have not yet had the pleasure of visiting another country, so going to Costa Rica is going to be a real adventure! Although I have not been able to do any exploring myself, I have learned a lot about many different parts of the world from my incredible hall mates of the International Village in Arroyo Vista. Getting immersed into another culture will definitely be a memorable experience for me.
I am most excited about practicing Spanish with my future host family, engaging with the community in volunteer projects, and exploring the beauty of nature. I am also excited about the research we will each be conducting over the quarter, and I am curious to see what we can learn while we are abroad.
