The Chemical and Structural Biology (CSB) Training Program at UC Irvine hosts and supports a number of journal clubs throughout the year to help bring together students and faculty in the Ayala School of Biological Sciences, School of Physical Sciences, and the School of Medicine. Below is a list of CSB supported and CSB sponsored journal clubs offered at UC Irvine.
CSB Sponsored Journal Clubs
Mol Bio 214 – Literature in Proteins (Fall Quarter): In the Fall term, CSB fellows attend the Literature in Proteins Journal Club/course. As a companion course to Mol Bio 204 (Protein Structure and Function), this course dives into recent trends in the field of structural biology and enzymology. First year students from the CMB program are required to take this course along with Mol Bio 204 along with the more senior CSB fellows. One recent, high-impact paper is presented a week along with any required background in order to ensure a lively discussion. CSB fellows not only take the lead in this course, but also at as a source of advice and guidance to first year students to ensure that they are comfortable presenting and getting acquainted with the resources at UC Irvine.
Mol Bio 213 – Literature in Nucleic Acids (Winter Quarter): In the Winter term, CSB fellows support the Literature in Nucleic Acids Journal Club/course. A literature component of the first year course Mol Bio 203 (Nucleic Acid Structure and Function), this course has one student present one recent or landmark paper a week, with a new focus each year. CSB fellows not only take the lead in this course, but also at as a source of advice and guidance to first year students to ensure that they are comfortable presenting and getting acquainted with the resources at UC Irvine.
Mol Bio 201C – CSB Research Seminar (Spring Quarter): In the Spring term, CSB fellows organize a broad Chemical and Structural Biology seminar series open to all members of the community at UC Irvine. For more information, click here to go to the CSB Journal Club page.
