The ASCEND application is processed by the UCI Physics Department and will be open to accepted CUWiP students at the end of October. Please note that acceptance to CUWiP at UCI is a pre-requisite for applying to ASCEND.
CUWiP @ UCI and ASCEND applications must be submitted separately. Both applications are free.
Note that registration is separate from the initial application. Both must be completed in order to attend the conference.
CUWiP applicants will receive an email from APS in late October. If your CUWiP application is accepted for UCI, the email will contain instructions on how to register at UCI. You must register at the UCI site by the deadline contained in the email or your acceptance will be forfeited and your CUWiP spot will be offered to a wait-listed student. It is at this time that you will pay the registration fee (see below).
If your ASCEND application is accepted, you will be notified through an email from UCI.
Fees & Expected Costs
There is no cost to apply to CUWIP or ASCEND. Students accepted to attend CUWiP must pay a one-time registration fee of $45, to help offset some of the costs of the conference. We provide all lodging and meals at the conference.
If your department is not covering the cost, and the $45 would cause financial hardship, you may request a fee waiver by following the procedure explained in your acceptance email. Please note, fee waiver requests must be made seven days in advance of the registration deadline.
Due to the expected large number of attendees, travel support from CUWIP@UCI is very limited. CUWiP requests that participants first ask their departments for travel funding. If your department is unable to provide funding, please direct travel funding requests to email@example.com.
