I was born in Ottawa, Canada, but I grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where I studied biomedical engineering and gained an interest in biomechanics and collagen crosslinking. In my graduate research at UC Irvine in Dr. Athanasiou’s laboratory, I studied how different collagen subtypes and crosslinks affect the functionality of native and tissue-engineered cartilages. Continuing as a postdoctoral scholar, I will continue to develop collagenomics methods and conduct animal studies with tissue-engineered cartilages. When I’m not in lab, one of my favorite things is cooking with my wife, whether it’s throwing together a quick dinner or spending all day on a feast. I also grew up playing classical and jazz piano, and while I’m not as good as I once was, I still enjoy playing Chopin, Debussy, and an occasional improv piece. Some of my other hobbies include hiking, gardening, and hanging out with dogs. |
