“Early Faculty” Explore Changes in School of Education During Visit

Two former faculty members, Mary Roosevelt and Rachael Mitchell, visited the School of Education and expressed amazement at the growth of the institution they had known as the Office of Teacher Education.

Ms. Roosevelt continues her affiliation with the School, serving as a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board, but Ms. Mitchell had not been back since the 1990s. Having served a year as a Reading Specialist at University Park and two years at the district office, Ms. Mitchell subsequently joined the Office of Teacher Education to coordinate placements of UCI Intern Teachers and teach literature-related courses.

During lunch at the University club, Ms. Mitchell and Ms. Roosevelt reminisced about their tremendous enjoyment of teaching at UCI. They also described looking out their office windows in the afternoon to watch the Moulton Ranch cowboys passing by with their herds of cattle.

Both women will be joining other “founding and early faculty” members for a School of Education tribute on February 5th at the University Club. More details about the upcoming event will follow.
