Nancy Kelly, Ed.D. Appointed Superintendent of Upland Unified School District

Dr. Nancy Kelly, 2004 alumna of the UCI/UCLA Joint Ed.D. in Educational Administration, has been hired as Superintendent of the Upland Unified School District (UUSD).

Dr. Kelly began her career in education as a counselor, and transitioned to administration in 1993 as an assistant principal. She served 12 years as a high school principal in the Bellflower Unified School District, as well as the Huntington Union High School District, before accepting a district-level position as Director in the Colton Joint Unified School District. In 2006, Dr. Kelly joined the Redondo Beach Unified School District as Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources.

Recently, Dr. Kelly was named Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) 2013 Region IXV Human Resources Administrator of the Year, and was also selected as the 2013 ACSA California State Human Resources Administrator of the Year. Currently she serves as a member of the California Interscholastic Federation (C.I.F.) Executive Committee, as well as the C.I.F. State Federated Council.

In announcing her appointment, the Upland Unified School District commented,

Dr. Nancy Kelly brings extensive and respected experience as a passionate leader as well as a student advocate. A strong believer in whole child education, Dr. Kelly is committed to ensuring that rigorous academic and quality co-curricular programs are available to meet the diverse interests and needs of all students at all levels. In her first Superintendent’s message to the Upland community, Dr. Kelly wrote,

I am honored to serve as your new Superintendent of Schools and I look forward to having the opportunity to experience first-hand the outstanding academic and co-curricular programs offered throughout the district. Serving as an educator for the last 30 years has been a privilege for sure, although more than anything, I remind myself each day of the enormity of the responsibility we have to our children.

Dr. Kelly received her doctoral degree in Educational Administration from UCI/UCLA in 2004. Her dissertation was titled The Impact of New High Stakes Testing Environment on California High School Students: An Exploration into Mediating Potential Negative Consequences. She received her Master of Science degree in Education/Counseling from Purdue University in 1982, her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from San Diego State University in 1981, and her Associate of Arts degree from Long Beach City College (1979).
