The Academic Web Technologies Development Team models their interview process after leading tech companies in order to provide students with an experience that is as close to what they’ll encounter in the real world as possible. The process is as follows, though we reserve the right to make modifications as needed:
- Stage 1: Application collection
- Stage 2: Technical phone interview
- Stage 3: In-person programming exercise & technical interview
Stage 1: Application collection
The Academic Web Technologies Development Team collects applications in a first-come-first-serve basis and reviews candidates as applications arrive. Usually an application will be reviewed within 1-2 weeks, depending on the volume we are receiving.
If your application is for an open position and your experience matches what we are looking for, a representative will contact you with information on moving forward. Keep an eye out for an email from eee-jobs@eee.uci.edu!
Stage 2: Technical phone interview
The technical phone interview is a chance for you to demonstrate your technical knowledge. This interview may include coding, data structures, algorithms and/or design questions, and will last up to an hour.
You will need a computer and internet connection during this time so we can have you type some code for us in a collaborative coding space during the call.

- What you need

Stage 3: In-person programming exercise & technical interview
Programming exercise
The programming exercise portion of this stage allows you to demonstrate your coding skills on a real-world problem. The exercise can be done in any programming language. You will not need to bring anything with you, as a workstation will be provided for you.
Interview
The interview portion of this stage will include technical and non-technical questions, some of which will need to be done on a white board. This portion allows you to demonstrate your thinking process and analytical skills.
