Board Member Feature – Michael Head September 14, 2022 by kmuchida Michael is our first spotlight feature! The full story below:While on vacation in Hawaii, Michael witnessed a lifeless baby being pulled out of a pool, and upon assessment he found her to be unresponsive and apneic, but with a pulse. He immediately jumped into action, directing his father to call 911 and began delivering rescue breaths. This produced large volume water emesis and he flipped the baby over, delivering back blows to facilitate the expulsion of water from her lungs. He repeated the process many times, guiding the baby’s parents to assume the rescue breaths. He closely monitored the baby’s pulse and began a round of chest compressions in addition to rescue breaths and back blows. After one round of chest compressions and more water emesis, the baby started breathing spontaneously. EMS arrived a few minutes later. A few days later, Michael learned that the baby was released from the hospital and was acting completely normally. This could have had a very different outcome and we are so proud of Michael for putting his medical skills to work and saving a life!
