Trump Launches 2020 Campaign With Same Hyping Campaign Speech for His Inauguration

This was Trump’s singular moment to pivot from spirited campaign hype speeches to a serious acceptance of the weight of the Presidency. Instead, he doubled down (who would have thought), on how bad the economy was (despite the 4.7% or so unemployment rate), as well as how bad everything else was about the country. (This would go along with his previous crazy claim that 96 million Americans were unemployed.) When he said “all talk, no action”, I thought he was again retaliating for Rep. John Lewis, the civil rights hero, claiming that Trump was illegitimate, until being reminded that that is what Trump often said about the Congress.

Photos of Obama’s 1.8 million with Trump’s far emptier mall, would imply less than a million.  Update: Day 2 of the Trump Era:  Trump now claims that 1.5 million saw the event, and the press was dishonest by using a far away view.  There also were completely empty bleachers for the parade. The night before he said that his inauguration would be the biggest event of all time, anywhere. Clearly, we are in for eight years of these ego building self-praises.

Trump signed two giant one page, apparently parchment, documents, probably meant for display next to the Declaration of Independence. They were given the vaguest description as easing the burden of the ACA act, and completing the appointments of Gen. James Mattis for Secretary of Defense, and Marine Gen. John Kelly as Secretary of Homeland Security.

You could see by looking at the scowl or anger in his face before his speech, as to what the tone would be. Other than the most general “America First” and breaking of all of our trade agreements, there wasn’t any guidance of where we were going, other then infrastructure projects, since building is Trump’s speciality.

I had no rememberance that the inauguration was such a religious event.  One of the pastors seemed to say that since it rained, God had smiled on the inauguration.   This evening, at a ball, Trump claimed it only rained after the inauguration, and God must have okayed it.  Update:  Day 2, Trump repeated again the God-rain story.  God must then have had it in for Trump’s supportive audience, since it rained on them after Trump went inside.  Since this blog is partly about the environment, I would take note of this, but this is weather, not climate.  But with those beliefs, I can see why Trump would find it hard to believe that man was changing the climate, when only God is ascribed to do that.  On the other hand, it rained really hard here to today in Irvine, as it has been doing this season.  Statewide, our drought is ending.  Thank God.
