June 8, 5 PM Update of CA 48 Congressional Primary

Because the Orange County Registrar progressed to counting almost 25% (24.6%) of the estimated post primary day votes to count, the CA 48 race deserves an update. In a nutshell, Democrat Hans Keirstead’s lead over Democrat Harley Rouda has been cut to only 20 votes. One of these will be on the November Ballot to Challenge the leader, incumbent Republican Representative Dana Rohrabacher. Class Dismissed, have a nice weekend. The beach is still great.

Still here? Here are the detailed gains:

Rorhabacher gained 1,946 to 36,020.

Keirstead gained 1,161 to 20,496.

Rouda gained 1,270 to 20,476.

Republican Scott Baugh gained 1,001 to 19,010.

Democrat Omar Siddiqui gained 355 to 5,814.

So Rouda closed to within 20 votes of Keirstead. Scott Baugh failed to keep up with Keirstead’s gains by 160 votes. Keirstead’s leads this week, counting back, have been 20, 129, 45, and -73. Their average is only 30. Out of 20,496 votes, that is only a 1 out of 683, or a 0.14% lead.

Every Vote Counts! And there are thousands more to count.

The lagunabeachindy.com published a party breakdown of registered voters in Laguna Beach and Newport Beach.

For Laguna Beach: 37.9% D, 32.2% R, and 24.5% NPP.

For Newport Beach: 21.8% D, 51.3% R, and 22.6% NPP (no party preference).
