Orange County Congressional Races

Orange County Congressional Races

So many close races, how come?  Partly because we focus on the close ones for the week or so that mail and provisional ballots are counted.  Using CNN’s numbers now (5PM) the House is D 223 and R 200.  That totals 423 of the 435 House membership, so we are waiting on 12 races.  That is only 2.8%.

The House leadership and committee majority and leadership is already determined to be Democratic, having passed the 218 representative needed for the majority.  At least 101 women will serve in the House.  That is 23%.  At least 23 women will be in the Senate, also 23%.  The majority of Americans now have Democratic governors.

Orange County has 1.56 million registered voters.  Vote by mail ballots were the majority with 381,000 ballots.  Precinct ballots cast were 280,000.  Early ballots were only 4,500.  Numbers are rounded off.  Total ballots cast were 665,000, or 43%.

For all of Orange County, there were 434,000 ballots to count after Election Day.  Right now, there are 420,00 left to count.  This may include provisionals, since the vote by mail ballots were only 381,000.  The 45th and 48th each had about 186,000, and their share of the 665,000 were 28% each.  Taking that percent of the 420,000 left to count, gives about 118,000 for each district, or 59,000 left to count for each candidate.  Sounds way too large.  Stay tuned.

The CA 45th covering Irvine and all in OC, one of two California Tossups:

R Mimi Walters (I) 96,054.   51.63%

D Katie Porter.      89,980.   48.37%

CA 48th, covering the coast, and all in OC, results are:

D Harley Rouda.             94,835.  50.97%

R Dana Rohrabacher (I). 91,233.  49.03%

CA 39th, covering Fullerton, part in OC, one of two California Tossups:

R Young Kim.   76,956.   51.29%

D Gil Cisneros. 73,077.   48.71%

The OC part is:

R Young Kim.    51,975.   54.32%

D Gil Cisneros.  43,710.   45.68%

Other parts are in Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties

CA 49th, between San Clemente and San Diego:

D Mike Levin.     94,579.   53.53%

R Diane Harkey.   82,095.   46.47%

The district is mainly in San Diego County, and is well decided, so we will not report on this further.  I focused on it because with CA 48th also, the Democrats now control the California Coast, which is very important for its protection.
