United States Scores and Rankings in the 2018 Environmental Performance Index

The Environmental Performance Index (EPI) is an assessment and ranking performed by the Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy and the Center for International Earth Science Information Network of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, in collaboration with the World Economic Forum. It examined 180 countries on 24 Performance Indices.

We report here how the United States scored on the EPI. Rather than just concentrate on the rankings, which are very close and relative, we focus on the actual scores. We also just look at the major and next level categories, but not the sub-categories.

Environmental Performance Index: Rank 27; Score 71.19.
The highest scoring country was Switzerland with a score of 87.42.

Environmental Health: Rank 16; Score 93.91.

Air Quality: Rank 10; Score 97.52
Water Sanitation: Rank 29; Score 90.92.
Heavy Metals: Rank 54; Score 64.99

Ecosystem Vitality: Rank 69; Score 56.04.

Biodiversity and Habitat: Rank 103; Score 70.93.
Forests: Rank 115; Score 8.84.
Fisheries: Rank 67; Score 57.58.
Climate and Energy: Rank 114; Score 45.81.
Air Pollution SO2, NOX: Rank 83; Score 50.46.
Water Resources: Rank 39; Score 92.57.
Agriculture: Rank 2; Score 72.38.
