Status of US and Canada Coronavirus Cases, and US Unpreparedness

There have only been about 500 tests so far.  There is no evidence that a million tests are coming.  The CDC test count has been removed from its website.  The tests were initially faulty and have been limited for a month.  They have just recently relaxed the testing of community spread, instead of direct transmission.  One estimate of the 6 weeks of cases in King County, WA, is that there are 300-500 real cases there by now.

We concentrate on the main US outbreaks.

King County, WA, is mainly one nursing home, with 21 cases, 8 of which are now deaths.  There is 1 recovery, which we abbreviate as 1R.

Snohomish County, WA, has 6 cases with 1 death among them.

The above two are the 9 US deaths.

Santa Clara, CA, has 11 cases, with 1R.

Cook Co., IL, containing Chicago, has 4 cases with 2R.

Orange County, CA, has 3 cases.

There are 45 cases in the locations above with 3 or more cases.

The rest of the US cities or counties listed on Johns Hopkins database have 1 or 2 cases.  9 cities or counties have 2 cases.  16 cities or counties have 1 case.  There are 18 double cases, and 16 single cases.

The total of all located cases is 80.  (Counting one that occurred after I did all of the locating above).  There are also 45 cases among Americans brought back from Wuhan or the Diamond Princess cruise ship.  The total is 125.

The US total cases jumped from 105 yesterday to 125 today.

Ignoring the relatively fixed 45, the jump in located cases is from 60 yesterday to 80 today, or 20.  That is an increase of 20/60 = 33%, or a third.

Canada’s main outbreaks are in B.C. With 9 cases and 3R, and Toronto, ON, with 19 cases and 2R.  There is 1 recovered case in London, ON, and 1 in Montreal, QC.  Canada has a total of 33 cases with 6R.

Mexico is holding steady with 5 cases, and 1R.

There are no cases in Central America.

In South America there are 7 in Ecuador, 2 in Brazil, 1 in Chile, and 1 in Argentina.

Africa has cases in 6 countries.

Trump talked to the gathered drug companies, and changed the subject from lowering drug prices to the Coronavirus vaccine, which he said was coming soon.  While composing one is relatively fast, it takes a year and a half to test it and manufacture it.  Yet 30,000 Americans a year die from not having health insurance.  Many cannot afford filling their prescriptions.  No progress was mentioned on drug prices.

There is an absence of Coronavirus tests, the mentioned one million turns out to be nonsense.  There have been less than 500 tests in the US.  South Korea has tested 100,000.  China can test more than 1.6 million a week.  Why don’t we Fedex our samples overnight to these countries?

We are told that masks will be ineffective, and that medical personnel need the 43 million that are available.  It was said that 300 million are needed.  Monsanto can only make 35 million a month, and Trump thinks that that is satisfactory.  I presume they really mean the effective N-95 grade masks or respirators.  The 95 means that it shields from 95% of particles.  The cheapest cost about $20, or about $10 in bulk, on Amazon.  The most common ones that aren’t sealed, cost about $1 in bulk.

We only have 75,000 ventilators. It has been estimated that we may need 750,000.  That sounds like way to much since there have been 93,000 worldwide cases.  They are already telling the 80% of mild cases to recover at home, and stay inside.  It would be nice if the government supplied meals, groceries, and medicines.  13% are supposed to be severe cases which require hospitalization.  7% are critical cases, which of course require hospitalization.

Our protocols are so poor and unprepared that 25 first responders, or 100 medical personnel can be quarantined for two weeks, for even a single or group of cases.

Nobody has discussed how many full body suits we have, or how many goggles we have, which are also necessary.

On the 6 Sunday interview programs, when we could have dispensed necessary information, three were taken by VP Mike Pence, and three by former drug lobbyist Alex Azar, Secretary of Health and Human Services.  No doctors or scientists.  Earlier, Dr. Fauci said that he was not muzzled.  He just had to clear everything with the VP’s office.  Nobody gasped!

I know it sounds cruel of me not to concentrate on the world’s over 93,000 cases and over 3,000 deaths, but we really don’t know how many US cases we have, or how fast it will grow.  We really have to reinstate our international prevention programs in South America and Africa.

Trump has only agreed to $2.5 billion for the Coronavirus, but will have a $2 billion war chest for his re-election.

SOS, SOS, Mayday, Mayday.
