How did you use this product/subscription in your course?
I used PollEverywhere during all but 4 of the 20 class periods to solicit opinions from the students, to check their understanding, and to ask them to apply course content to a real-world situation. I typically had between 2 and 4 polls during each 80 minute class period. Students were awarded participation points for completion of these polls.
In what ways do you feel the product/subscription supported student learning, if at all?
I feel like PollEverywhere kept the students engaged and thinking throughout the class (I spaced the polls apart), which certainly supported student learning. The use of PollEverywhere to solicit student opinions did allow the entire class to engage in several interesting discussions when we were divided on issues of health and wellness.
What challenges, if any, did you encounter when using this product/subscription?
No challenges. PollEverywhere is SO much easier than dealing with the clicker hardware/software situation. Every student was able to participate in the polls without needing to spend any money or buy any special equipment.
What advice would you give to a colleague who’s interested in using this product?
Use it! I hope that UCI considers a site license for PollEverywhere so that we can replace the antiquated clicker system with something more engaging (there are a large number of different polling features) for the students.
