How did you use this product/subscription in your course?
For creating screencapture videos that I posted on our course website. My interest in the product was to compare it to the much more basic (and less expensive) tool Screencast-O-Matic.
In what ways do you feel the product/subscription supported student learning, if at all?
I think videos are more effective for many students than traditional lecture notes, so I feel like it was very supportive.
What challenges, if any, did you encounter when using this product/subscription?
I am definitely not a “power user” with regards to Camtasia, and the many additional features (compared to Screencast-O-Matic) were more intimidating than helpful.
What advice would you give to a colleague who’s interested in using this product?
I think if a colleague wants to produce videos on a small-scale basis, I would highly recommend Screencast-O-Matic, and I would only recommend Camtasia to someone who found Screencast-O-Matic was inadequate. (For example, an instructional designer told me that my Screencast-O-Matic uploads were not as high of quality as he expected. This comment was one of my reasons for trying Camtasia, and indeed the Camtasia uploads were higher quality, although that was mostly apparent to me from the file size, not so much from actually viewing the videos.)
