Alain Bonardi: Electroacoustic Music

Alain Bonardi, a French composer and researcher who specializes in the spatial synthesis of sound, presents a concert of music featuring guitarist Alex Dunn and violinist Lisa Yoshida. This concert is part of a residency project of French composer Alain Bonardi made possible through the Jazz & New Music artistic fund, a program of the FACE Foundation, in partnership with the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States.

These activities are part of Prof. Bonardi’s residency at UCI, organized by Prof. Chris Dobrian. Prof. Bonardi will also present two additional workshops, on Nov. 7 (Introduction to Faust) and Nov. 8 (Ambisonics and Multichannel Audio), which will be streamed via Zoom for those unable to attend in person. King Britt solo performance

Philadelphia born and Pew Fellowship recipient, King James Britt (his real name) is a 30+ year, producer, composer and performer in the global advancement of electronic music. As a composer and producer, his practice has lead to collaborations with the likes of De La Soul, Alarm Will Sound Orchestra, Saul Williams, director Michael Mann (Miami Vice) and many others, as well as being called for remixes from an eclectic list of giants, including Meredith Monk, Solange and Calvin Harris. He is also a professor at UCSD in the computer music department and the creator of “Blacktronika: Afrofuturism In Electronic Music,” a new lecture course that researches and honors the people of color who have pioneered groundbreaking genres within the electronic music landscape.

Listen to the Motion features a motion sensor system created by Professor Mari Kimura called MUGIC®, which captures expressive gestures. The concert features students from the Integrated Composition, Improvisation, and Technology (ICIT) program in the Claire Trevor School of the Arts (CTSA), who have been working with MUGIC®.

The music builds on their decade-long friendship and collaborative relationship.

Yvette Janine Jackson | Radio Opera Workshop

Radio Opera Workshop is a scalable intermedia chamber ensemble established to perform the radio operas of Yvette Janine Jackson. The 60-minute concert features the U.S. premiere of Left Behind, part of a series of radio operas themed around the environmental and socioeconomic impact of space tourism on local communities near launch sites.

Matthew Schumaker and Eric Huebner

This concert features a range of works for piano and electronics curated by composer Matt Schumaker and pianist Eric Huebner. Among other pieces, Huebner will premiere Schumaker’s new work Arcs above the Earth (after Michael Anderson), which evokes astronaut Michael Anderson, who died in 2003 on Shuttle Columbia.
