HOW IS GENERAL CHEMISTRY PEER TUTORING DIFFERENT FROM LARC?
General Chemistry Peer Tutoring is completely free for all students. You are not required to register to attend a peer tutor’s office hours or to use their resources. You are welcome to attend any tutor’s tutoring session and review sessions as you please.
LARC is a program that meets with students twice a week to go over each week’s course material. Each tutor hosts exam review sessions for their tutees. Students must pay a $110 fee per quarter and register for a specific class section. Eligible students can apply for scholarships via Student Support Services.
WHAT OCCURS DURING OFFICE HOURS?
Tutors can go over their weekly worksheets that they have created, or answer specific questions that students need help on. This may vary upon each tutor.
WILL WORKSHEET KEYS BE POSTED ONLINE?
Worksheet answer keys are not posted online to encourage students to attend office hours. You can also send an email to that specific tutor to request the answer key.
SUPPOSE IT IS WEEK 5 OF THE QUARTER. IF I HAVE NEVER ATTENDED AN OFFICE HOUR, AM I STILL ALLOWED TO GO?
Of course! We have an open-door policy, so you may come in at any week of the quarter. Additionally, you can attend any tutor’s office hours regardless of the professor that they are tutoring for.
IF I HAVE NOT GONE TO ANY TUTORING SESSIONS, CAN I STILL GO TO THEIR EXAM REVIEW SESSIONS?
Yes! You may take advantage of our free resources however you would like.
I AM INTERESTED IN BEING A TUTOR. WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS AND HOW DO I APPLY?
We require a minimum cumulative and science GPA of 3.0 and a B+ or higher in the general chemistry series. Our primary application cycle is at the end of Spring quarter, whereas the Fall and Winter cycles will vary depending on the amount of tutors needed. Our spots are limited and highly competitive. If you are not accepted, please feel free to apply again next quarter!
