Clinical Services

Through our clinical services we provide the complete spectrum of care, including gender affirming hormone replacement therapy, puberty suppression, and patient and family counseling. We currently have 125 patients. Access to these much-needed services in a supportive environment is critical for the health and well-being of transgender patients. We also provide connections to community resources and support groups that can further support each patient through their transition and beyond.

Provider Training

Gender Diversity has trained over 500 physicians, trainees, mental health providers, and medical staff on the importance of providing gender affirming care to transgender and gender non-conforming people. Additionally, we work with the UC Irvine School of Medicine to educate medical students on transgender health so that the future of healthcare is more inclusive of all gender identities.

School-based Training

We provide training to local schools on how to create environments that are friendly and welcoming for transgender and gender expansive students. These trainings/presentations are available to students, faculty, and Gay Straight Alliance groups. To date, we have given trainings and attended events at 13 schools in Anaheim, Irvine, and Yorba Linda school districts, as well as higher education institutions such as California State University Long Beach, Irvine Valley College, UC Irvine, and USC.

Community Outreach and Education

In collaboration with the LGBT Center OC, we educate transgender individuals and their loved ones about gender affirming hormone treatment, puberty suppression, navigating insurance, and the importance of mental health. Each July we help host a Trans Pride event and resource fair. This event connects the transgender community with local organizations, businesses, and healthcare providers that are transgender affirming. There are also a variety of educational workshops.

Convene Regular Meetings for Other Affirming Professionals

We convene for the Orange County Gender Affirming Professionals (OC GAP), which aims to meet existing needs for transgender individuals, as well as for those professionals who seek to improve care. We host quarterly county-wide meetings with mental health professionals, gender affirming surgeons,
primary care physicians, and school counselors to discuss and plan upcoming events about transgender health. OC GAP is developing a listserv for transgender mental health and putting together case studies to teach other mental health/healthcare providers about transgender health. A member, who is a surgeon at Cedars-Sinai, is creating a transgender surgery clinic. Our members from OC Gap seek to use our program as a model for gender diversity programs at their institutions.
