Pronouns: she/her/hers
Hey! I am Hamsi (hum-see) Radhakrishnan, a Ph.D. Candidate in Dr. Craig Stark’s Lab at UC Irvine. I entered grad school through the Mathematical, Computational, and Systems Biology program. I spend most of my time using MRI to understand how the structural properties of the brain change with age, disease, and cognitive differences, with a focus on gray matter microstructure. More specifically, I use diffusion-weighted imaging, a special kind of MRI that tracks the movement of water molecules, to non-invasively predict important neurobiological properties: like counts of different types of brain cells; an endeavor that hopefully holds a lot of clinical promise. I also serve as a co-chair for the K-12 Ambassador Committee in the Center for Neurobiology of Learning and Memory, where we host events to get children excited about science! When I am not doing research or outreach, I enjoy poetry, cooking, games of any kind, and watching especially terrible romantic comedies (the cheesier the better, obviously).
