The Department of Spanish & Portuguese invites all UCI students to submit their work to the 2025 UCI Spanglish Writing Contest, held in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month!

We welcome entries in the form of poetry, short essays, or short stories that highlight the richness of Spanglish as a living, creative, and powerful expression of Latinx/e/o/a identities. Submissions should reflect creativity, effective use of Spanglish, and an understanding of the dynamic intersections of language, culture, gender, class, and ethnicity.

The contest winner will receive a gift card and certificate of recognition, and will be celebrated during the Hispanic Heritage Festival on October 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in HIB 135.

Deadline to submit: October 18, 2025, by 11:59 p.m.
