Whether you’re looking for support for research, travel, or year-long fellowships, CDH has a compiled a list of institutions and opportunities to keep on your radar.

The best place to start would be the Graduate Student Resource Guide, which contains hyperlinks to on-campus funding opportunities. Additionally, check the Department of History’s weekly Graduate Student Digest email, which contains links and and info for funding and awards for eligible grad students.

Below are archived funding opportunities for awards offered in the past – calls for recurring awards are typically announced at the same time each year. Keep an eye on future award cycles that you might be eligible for.

National Humanities Center – Graduate Student Summer Residency on Teaching

The UCI Humanities Center is pleased to announce their participation in the National Humanities Center’s (NHC) 2020 summer residency program for graduate students, Passionate Teaching in the Research Environment: Creating Narratives in the Accessible Classroom, July 6–17, located at the NHC in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. The Humanities Center will offer full funding for two UCI students (tuition, travel/lodging, and stipend.) Follow the link above to learn more.

AGS Travel Grants

AGS offers year-round travel grants to support students traveling to present (research, keynotes, and/or paneled speakers) at conferences. Follow the link above to learn more.

History Department Grants and Research Travel Awards

Dickson D. Bruce Graduate Research Award ($1000 – $2000 award) This award will be offered first to fund the research of those studying United States history, it can also be made available to others in the program. The donors require that the recipients acknowledge the award in the introduction of their dissertations and that the family receives an electronic copy of each completed dissertation that was assisted by the award.

Charles & Ann Quilter Graduate Students Award in History– Multiple Awards up to $2000. These grants support pre-dissertation research, dissertation research, and travel to major conferences, including to interview at the AHA.

To apply for one or both of the awards, please submit the following:

  1. Project narrative and discussion of research to be conducted with the award monies. (max 1000 words)
  2. CV
  3. Budget request specifying the cost to support the project activities.
  4. List of all funding received while at UCI.

 Phi Beta Kappa International Scholarship

Applications for the Phi Beta Kappa Alumni Association International Scholarship are now open. Applications are open to any UCI international student in their final year of study. UCI Grad Division will award two PhD students $2,000 each. Follow the link above to learn more.

President’s Dissertation Year Fellowship 

UCI Graduate Division offers 80% full funding (home department’s required to provide at least 20% supplemental funding) for PhD students in their final year of study. Follow the link above to learn more.

Graduate Dean’s Dissertation Fellowship

UCI Graduate Division offers up to three quarters of full funding for PhD students for their final year of study. Follow the link above to learn more.

 GPACS 2019 Graduate Student Small Grant Opportunity
