I am currently interested in researching how the broader public conceptualizes the archetypical gamer and the role of video game companies in establishing, as well as perpetuating these preconceived notions. More specifically, my research focuses on how gaming membership becomes predicated on intersectional categories such as one’s race, sex, gender, and age. In the future, I plan on examining how these perceptions differ within countries that have openly adopted video games as a socially acceptable entertainment medium, namely South Korea and Japan, and in areas that have little to no interactions with video games, such as the global south more broadly.
