BACKGROUND – UCI Beall Applied Innovation’s purpose is to measurably improve lives through access to UCI-developed knowledge. We do this by partnering with researchers and industry to move UCI knowledge and discoveries into products and markets. Our strategic aims include helping achieve an embedded use-inspired research culture, leveraging actionable market and business intelligence, matching the cadence of business and sharpening our deal-making expertise.
PROJECT 1: Investor Relationship Management
One approach to achieve our strategic aims is to engage the investor community, matching investors who are aligned with our startups in terms of industry, technology, and stage of growth. To that end, we’d welcome an intern excited about curiosity, experimentation and collaboration in:
- setting up an investor relations database offering a clear picture of the different investor groups classified by industry and compatibility with UCI industry/technology clusters, as well as by the preferred stage of investment;
- defining a profile for each investor organization (fund size, geographic preference, university related portfolio etc);
- identifying the different groups of investors that could be an appropriate match as the startups develop.
By actively engaging with our investor community, startup companies, and the relationship management database, the Intern will support the most crucial step for UCI’s most mature startup companies: securing funding to scale their business to measurably improve lives through access to UCI-developed knowledge.
Project 2: Training Platform (subject to Beall Applied Innovation securing the learning platform)
Another approach to achieving our strategic aims is to provide faculty and grad student Researchers training in various aspects of entrepreneurship. We are moving towards providing much of this content through a program management/learning management platform. To that end, we’d welcome an intern excited about curiosity, experimentation and collaboration in setting up various training modules on this platform including helping identify, curate, load, test and manage content.
By actively engaging with our content providers and startup companies, the Intern will support the ongoing maturity of UCI startup companies as they mature towards measurably improving lives through access to UCI-developed knowledge.
