In particular, most of her research is in the area of online algorithms, which must make decisions with incomplete information. Irani has applied research in online algorithms to projects in Web caching, power management, video transmission and transportation scheduling. She earned her Ph.D. in 1991 from UC Berkeley after which she was a University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellow at UC San Diego.
