LouAnne Boyd

LouAnne Boyd, Ph.D. ’18

LouAnne Boyd is Assistant Professor of Computer Science in the Schmid College of Science and Technology at Chapman University. Dr. Boyd’s research interests center around the design, development, and evaluation of novel technologies to support neurodiverse populations. Her current projects investigate the efficacy of a new interaction design framework drawn from neuroscience theories to accommodation sensory impairments. Specific projects under investigation include the development of technologies to increase the accessibility of information for people with autism, ADHD, anxiety, and/or dyslexia.

Boyd is the recipient of the 2017 Fred M. Tonge Endowed Graduate Award for the 2016-2017 academic year. The award, named in honor of founding ICS and UCI faculty member Fred M. Tonge, gives recipients $1,000 toward their education.

Previously, Boyd was an autism coordinator for the Northeast Orange County SELPA (Special Education Local Plan Area) in the Placentia-Yorba Linda and Brea Olinda Unified School Districts. Professor Gillian Hayes was her graduate mentor. She has a Ph.D. in Informatics from UC Irvine (2018), M.A. in Psychology from Towson University (1996), and B.A. in Psychology from Washington University in Saint Louis (1991).
