Part 2.
Project objective
Engage visitor, provide more interactive/joyful experience using cutting edge technology.
Potential Stakeholder
City of Old Pasadena (Collaboration: JPL, Caltech & UCI)
SWOT Analysis
S (strengths): Near Caltech/NASA, Entertainment district
W (weaknesses): Not very clean, Not safe at night
O (opportunities): Incorporate the “science/technology” possibly collaborate with JPL/Caltech, Arising new tech startups last few years
T (threats): There are many classic/old theme of downtowns (Nothing special), Hard to access (due to the distance, traffic condition); far from everywhere, Not much innovation
Target Users
Families, tourist, young tech savvy
Idea
“Space Pasadena”

Old Pasadena is changed to Space Pasadena at night (simulate real time of the space) using holographic, AR/VR technology.
Idea1: 7D Holographic on the sky
Idea2: Augmented Reality space surface
Idea3(Option) : App (AR – space experience)

Part 1.

Idea1: More bike/walk, No more car. (Reduce car traffic, eco-friendly) Move parking lot away from the main area. (bike event: http://www.ciclavia.org/ or bike rent: http://www.santamonicabikeshare.com/)

Idea2: More street event such as farmers market, street art gallery, festivals (This kind of event will bring more people from other areas.)

Idea3: Eliminate the issue of the stinky area, homeless area (Especially, people don’t feel safe when they walk at the night) – Make area more positive by adding “nature” on the street, this will make people feel positive and create fresh air. (Lime tree, green area, flowers, garden, cherry blossom trees etc)

It’s cool to see how your ideas evolved from one part to the next and came alive in the pitch. I was looking forward to seeing how you tackled your ideas from the first Pitch, but I didn’t hear your second pitch. Now seeing the final result, it’s a whole leap forward! Innovative use of AR technology on such a large scale. I loved how you added the cool typing effect with highlights and the fun music. It was engaging on so many levels. I could imagine myself walking through this Space AR/VR world.
I would also be more interested on knowing how would this work, what kind of equipment would you need?
All in all, innovative and awesome idea, wish it was true! Maybe pursue this after MHCID? 😉
I really like both of your ideas for part 2! Something to keep in mind for the final project is that the text isn’t on screen long enough to read. I tend to be a very fast reader and I wasn’t able to finish the SWOT slide. I went back and couldn’t finish it the second time either, so I paused it. Same with the idea descriptions. They have a lot of text, so they should be up longer. I posted this in response to Tim as well: For movies, I believe the general rule of thumb is to have text on screen long enough to have someone read through it twice, that way it’s there long enough for slower readers.
I’m really excited to see your final project!
Eon, I like the way you have integrated Old Pasadena with NASA Jet labs scientific arena. May be have a space park in Old Pasadena with AR and VR.
Talha: somehow connect it to the Rose Bowl stadium?
Talha: It was built in 1922
Talha: and would be cool to modernize it in a space way!
More introduction about Pasadena and space relationship.
