Part 1

  1. Create a unified website/app/hashtag for Los Angeles street art and architecture to allow people to identify and locate art and their locations throughout the city. It would be great to also understand more about the artist, where else they have similar pieces in the city or in other parts of the world, and also to understand the piece itself and any backstory the artist has for the purpose of their piece if there is one they’d like to communicate. I am not sure about this idea yet because I think one of the main purposes of street art is that it is meant to be discovered and happened upon rather than sought out and a tourist destination. I, however, would love to have an app like this because then I be able to see what’s out there and what new art pops up before it disappears or becomes covered by other graffiti or art.http://studiodiy.com/2015/08/03/studiodiywallcrawl-the-best-walls-in-los-angeles/
  2. A collective Los Angeles city website to allow people to locate and find homeless shelters in the area. The website could list the types of items they need for the types of homeless communities they serve (women, children, mentally ill, hungry, homeless, jobless, etc.). If it could also show map concentrations for each type of community and where they congregate, it would help social workers and the city identify where to offer specific items that are needed the most. There was a city that left a refrigerator out that let people put leftovers or food they were gong to throw out into the fridge so that anyone who needed the food come to take it. Maintenance of hygiene in these fridges have been a problem, however, in Berlin.

  3. Gamify or incentivize charitable actions when people (of all ages) check in and taking a picture of:
    • Volunteering or donating to a homeless shelter OR
    • Picking up trash in a certain area to help clean up the streets (litter, trash, etc.) OR
    • Planting gardens in unused lots, along sidewalks, and freshening up greenery in parks and playgrounds
  4. Encourage artists and local chefs to repurpose or unused older historical buildings into pop up restaurants events or art exhibits with a retro theme?

I think I’m more prone to Idea #2 to somewhat gamify the experience. I think this makes it more exciting and I would be more prone to use this type of app.

Talha – you are so great and clutch as always! Awesome! I had no idea this existed before!!! Why? This is amazing. But I want to take it a step further with helping people find it in person. This seems like a great way of exhibiting street online as an online art exhibition of sorts to reduce the barriers of having to physically locate it in person though! Definitely will incorporate!
