Summary

The comparison is simply a method of showcasing all the differences between aspects of a controlled system in contrast to another. This is a useful tool for the designer to communicate their design with variable information.

  • Apple to Apple; Suggests to compare identical units of things by their common measure. For example; speed of two cars that share the same type of body and engine.
  • Single Context Display: Suggests that data should be presented in a singular context/display in conjunction with different data. Using a single display of data that contains many variables in comparison to other data helps viewers detect slight differences between both systems/objects/products/graphics.
  • Benchmarking: Suggest to compare data/graphics/objects in relations to standards that are set previously. For example, the speed of the fastest car in comparison to fastest car ever recorded by Guinness record. Or a country’s crime rate in comparison to the standard of the world’s crime rate per capita.
