  1. Gary,
Your maps are fun to look at because of all the visually stimulating icons and use of imagery you’ve employed in each of the 5 maps. The Historic Architecture force was my favorite to look at since the legend showed so many other well-known buildings. Creative idea! Same goes for the Spirituality map. Its obvious to tell which religions are which depending on the icons and legend.

For the homelessness map, not sure how you estimated the areas of homelessness, but I did think the breakdown of men and women was a good detailed information that answered my initial curiosity.

I especially thought the base map was well done. Did you create this in Illustrator?

    Great work!

  2. Great work Gary. I think the usage of imagery and metaphors (i.e., spirituality and Historic Architecture) makes your map unique and stands out. I appreciate you even display the year built on the Historic architecture map.

I also appreciate how you categorize homelessness map into male vs. female – this adds another data point, which also makes your map unique.

  3. Gary, great work. Overall your maps are very clean and easy to understand. I really like the Historical Architecture map and how you use different forms of symbols to identify the era which each building was built on.

I really appreciate the use of color coding in showing gender in your Homeless Force map. However, I could not really connect with the logic behind the use of shapes as representatives of population density. I believe use of shades of color works better to represent population density (i.e. darker shades are more dense as opposed to lighter shades).

  4. Overall Feedback:
    – I like the use of metaphors and imagery.
    – Very clear labels and legends.

    Homelessness Map:
    – The shapes are hard to understand without the legend. I don’t think you need the different shapes because the volume or size of the squares indicate the quantity. I recommend just having squares.

    Note:
    – It’s interesting how the forces are concentrated.
