Accessibility

An accessible design is created to be used by the most users representing a variety of abilities. Accessibility is discussed in for categories, according to UPoD: operability, perceptibility, forgiveness and simplicity.

Operability refers to a design that is universal for all abilities. Perceptibility is when any user can perceive a design regardless of the level of sensory control. This is done through using multiple sensory responses, like haptic and audio. Forgiveness is a design that utilizes good constraints and clear affordances to reduce user error. Simplicity is to avoid the overcomplication so more people can use the design and easily understand it

Accessibility is sadly a principle that is looked over by many companies. 2.7 million people are color blind which comes out to roughly 5% of the world’s population, even with these staggering numbers a lot of the major sites in the world fail to pass accessibility. Designers need to take responsibility for their designs to ensure everything they do passes accessibility guidelines. I love how you spoke to haptic feedback and audio, these are technologies that are just beginning to gain traction especially with the advancements with natural language. One good example is to make sure that links become underlined when you hover over them. Links that simply change colors do not provide the proper affordance for the color blind.   2. I think your posting is good examples and a good strategy.

    It looks every relationship in the world starts with ‘access.’ If we do not “access” near each other, we can not feel favorable, understand each other, or fall in love.

    I’d like to share some examples of accessibility design with you.
    For the visually impaired, voice assistance of camera in galaxy phone.
    For the hearing impaired, providing volume control separately using a bluetooth headset.
    For the elderly, legibility and ease of use design of washer.
    For children, Control Lock feature of refrigerators.
