Exercise: 2.2 Architectures – Omar Filippelli

As the soccer game progressed and my physical abilities declined, these were the positions I migrated to. Top of the chart (Yellow) reflects first half hour (+ -), my best moments of the game.

Saturday, I decided to clean up the entrance porch of my house. I estimated removing more than 100 spiderwebs. I noticed a clear territorial division between large-legged spiders and their smaller counterparts. I thought this could work for the assignment, so this is my hand drawing.

As I went to pick up the mail there were a few of my neighbors walking in and back from the mailbox. This rendering depicts possible mailbox routs by house number.

  1. Omar, I absolutely love that you mapped out your spider concentrations and even organized it by type & size! Your observation about territorial divisions was really perceptive, and I wonder if there are further species divisions within those territorial divisions? I guess we’ll have to wait until all the spiders return!

    1. Actually there was another level of territorial division. I could see a difference in size and type of spider within the smaller groups, but didn’t capture it early enough so I couldn’t document it. Something interesting was to see that the bigger spiders had the better areas with more exposure for their webs. hence, capturing larger bugs and in more quantities than the other smaller kind. I think that speed and time of arrival to the territory determines who owns what, no so much how big the spider is.
