Final Project Posting
Feedback Received [just a couple of them…]
- I think you need an intro section talking about what the Irvine Spectrum Center is and what it’s like currently, because it’s hard to know how your intervention is going to fit in and why it would be beneficial without that background.
- What kind of value does this have for the charity? A lot of nonprofits are strapped for cash and staff, so before dedicating resources to a project like this, they’d probably want to know what they’d get out of it.
- In general, it’d be nice to see this information laid out in a more aesthetically pleasing way- the website really limits your options!
- I like the idea about the space for a Cause program, using the unused space to support the community and charities. I like this idea a lot because it is very realistic.
- Rather than building great technology or art installations, your idea’s more about social activity that we really need in our lives. And I think The Spectrum is the perfect place for promoting this kind of social activity.
- The digital display is a simple but very smart idea. In the digital directory display, the pop-up or highlighted ads about the program will trigger people to click and learn about it in detail.

Hi Liliana & John,
I think your ‘space for a cause’ is quite a feasible idea… with retail shopping becoming more obsolete, it would be great to provide space to charities that need to be heard. What’s also great is that it is temporary, and uses the space that would be unused otherwise.
As for your two ideas, have you narrowed down to either connection or communication? I like your connection idea because it utilizes attractions that are already in the Spectrum Center. The water fountain idea also ties into California’s fight against water waste. It could help inform and remind people that there are ways to save!
I like your cutout idea for ASPCA; it’s similar to what Omar and I have done! Let’s be honest, people love dogs, cats, and all animals. The cutouts could be a great way of engaging them while they are curious as to why these cute animals are in various spots throughout the center. The only thing that limits this idea is that you’d have to have someone working at all times, or provide extra information for when the employee/volunteer has stepped away.
Overall, you have both done a great job thinking through the entire program of ‘spaces for a cause,’ and all of your ideas could work just as effectively. You just have to think about who you want your main audience to be, as some ideas (like the carousel) cater towards children and family.
Hi Alexa! Thank you for your feedback. I like your perspective on this. Our final concept is using communication, although we saw a lot of value in the connection concept as well.
I asked Omar if it was ok that we steal your idea! Thanks… I think its add something cool and I really wish we had the time to flush out an entire theme around vets on the holidays or animals with the ASPCA or … you know, you’re never done iterating!
