Recent research on homework has not linked homework prior to high school to increased student achievement. In addition, something done wrong multiple times wires our brain for continual error; therefore, IMP’s homework philosophy is as follows: 1) Homework should be a spiral review of topics already mastered so that students do not need support to complete it and teachers know understanding has already developed with their oversight; 2) Homework should address a single topic each night so that students can increase mastery; and 3) Homework should not take a significant amount or time nor require adult help; rather, homework should maintain and increasing fluency in already learned topics.
