Traditionally, samples are required to be stable in a high vacuum for TEM observation; however, the liquid cell enables scientists to observe specimens in liquid at nanometer resolution, making studies such as the structure and dynamics of organic and inorganic materials, and biological specimens possible. The topics covered in school include innovation in liquid cells and holder designs, beam sample interactions and the use of low dose liquid-phase electron microscopy (LPEM) and more. Students will have substantial hands-on practice on sample preparation and LPEM in the lab.
