Abstract

The current study is part of a large-scale online professional development (PD) program that prepares teachers to implement both NGSS-aligned STEM and NGSS+Arts STEAM with the goals of increasing teacher science content knowledge, teacher self-efficacy, and teaching perceptions in elementary science. Consequently, this study examines an online PD certificate program that integrates the NGSS-aligned STEM content with Arts methods to evaluate in-service teacher training and practitioner development to implement STEAM instruction in the classroom. Results from this study provide implications for the importance of examining the relationship between teacher self-efficacy and STEAM teaching perceptions for elementary science instruction, further solidifying the iterative improvement and design of high-quality online instructional PD programs.
