The quiet zone

Over the next few weeks, please be extra careful to keep the noise level in the Library as low as possible so we can provide law students and other Library visitors with a quiet place to study.

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • When it comes to noise, the biggest source of complaints is from talking. So if conversation is necessary, keep it brief and be attentive to how well others can hear you. Even whispers can carry quite far in some parts of the Library.
  • The computer lab and group study rooms are not entirely sound-proofed, so your classmates nearby can definitely hear it if things get boisterous.
  • We encourage you to try the lower level if you’re hoping to minimize distractions.
  • We also encourage all law students to contact anyone on the Library staff with Library-related questions or concerns.

Email the Reference Desk

Law students: did you know that you can ask us reference questions anytime, from anywhere? The Law Library recently set up an email address for students to use when they have research questions but can’t get to the reference desk:

refdesk@law.uci.edu

Reference librarians and research specialists respond to email from law students during regular desk hours: Monday through Friday, 9am to 5 pm.

Library keychains

Help the folks at the service counter by flashing your UCI Law keychain as you enter the Law Library to identify yourself as a UCI law student. If you don’t yet have one of the nifty red and white keychains, stop by the service counter and pick yours up (one per person only).

Hopefully we will get to know many law students by sight as the year goes on. But for now, please help all of us at the Service Counter in the effort to enforce the Law Library visitor policies.
